The beautiful Wharton Beach in Cape Le Grand is located about 100km East of the coastal Wheat belt town of Esperance.
We stayed in the Duke of Orleans Bay Caravan Park just around the corner from the bay. We visited the area in March and found this to be a very calm weather period, we encountered light winds and comfortable mid 20 degree temperature on most days....
This is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever visited. We spent a week exploring the area including Lucky Bay, Frenchmen's Bay and the isolated Cape Arid.
We spent a whole day exploring Wharton beach, it's white soft sand clear calm water and easy access. Jack could easily wheel around in his wheel chair on the firm sand base.
We drove the whole beach in mums taxi just a simple SUV, not a problem. There are some soft sandy patches and I did stop and walk these before attempting them. It's OK to be adventurous with you mates. but you do not want to get bogged on a beach with your wife and child in a wheelchair. That could ruin a good holiday.
All we required was a little speed and high range 4x4 to go everywhere. Jack loved it cruising along the beach with the windows open and the waves crashing nearby.
We had a great picnic lunch under the awning to shade Jack from the sun whilst I did some fishing.
A great day had by all.
Wharton Beach is only about 100km East of Esperance. Use the map below as a guide.
What is the right 4x4 for you, mum taxi towed a camper van and carried all of Jack equipment around WA. A land cruiser is great but do you really need it?

Running low of food we decided to visit Airlie Beach, that was until we broke the drive shaft. Another job to fix before we can get a beer.
