I visited Augusta on day 3 of a Southern Ocean cruise to the Whitsunday's.
We had a huge storm coming down the coast, I could have continued on to Albany but decided to sit it out in the Augusta Marina.
You will find a small but very secure marina half way from Albany to Perth. This Augusta marina is very new only a couple of years old. Before the Marina was built Augusta was not a place I would stop. It has a challenging coast line and not a great place to be on lee shore. Before the Marina was built work boat's anchored in little shallow bay's on very heavy moorings.
You motor into a marina with a high sea wall and the first jetty you see is the visitor jetty. in the photo above. You will find water and power.
Ashore you will find a toilet block with hot shower, the designer must work in the prisons because the toilet blocks are Gray sparse, sad and cold. The wind howls through the block.
The cost is $50.00au yes you get a berth and hot shower but not much more. There is no fuel dock, no washing facility, no shops and you have a 5km walk into town.
The 5km walk is not bad during the day but walking home from the pub at 10pm in the rain and a gale, in short that sucks. I should mention the Augusta Taxi service only works when he wants to.
The Marina Manager will give you a lift into town and help yacht move fuel if you ask nicely. He was a really nice bloke.
We rode out a 65 knot gale for 5 days, we recorded 48 knot winds in the the marina. This marina is built for big water and big winds.

Augusta is a small country town. There are your normal fish and chip shops, pizza shops, a chinese takeaway and a cafe which serves good coffee.
My opinion, the best place to eat is the local pub, there is only one in town.
The pub serves reasonable pub grub and cold beer. The food was OK and changes with the cook.
All said I will still eat there every time I visit. You can spent a very nice afternoon sitting on the deck looking out over the ocean.
I never tried ringing Uber but wish I had. The Augusta Cab or Taxi service did not respond to any call over the period of 5 days, 5 days of rain and high winds.
Yes the marina is a long walk but a very nice stroll on a sunny day.
Follow the google Link to find the marina.

What a great place to visit, you can walk form the marina to the Lighthouse. It is about 3km or so. It's a nice spot for lunch.
You should climb the light it's a great view.
Augusta has many good options for a short stay. Simply book into the pub if you need a beer and not the walk back to the yacht, but there are better options only a short walk from the pub.

OK so another bloody horrible job I need to do is retrieve my main Genoa halyard. The shackle snapped on the top of the furler in the middle of a 35 knot gale as I was beating back to Townsville from…
